RAFT art space / First Floor

Opening: April 19th, 7 pm

The installation “About art and life” by the artist Cristi Pogăcean, site specific for RAFT Cluj, starts from the artist’s values as an individual, as well as from the arguments that offer more solutions with perspectives that could be diametrically opposed. The banal, minimalist objects, but loaded with vast implications in human consciousness, carry the viewer in areas which are not connected only with the palpable part of things.
An eventual choice could relate to what is perceived by the senses, as well as by the aspects that go beyond the visible reality framework.

“The installation shows the great existential dilemma of the artist, the possible coexistence of the two worlds and the tensions between them. The installation does not propose solutions but only illustrates the crisis, amplifying it almost dramatically in space and time. Looking at it perpendicularly, a solution does not seem unimaginable, but once observed, the infinite reflections predict resignation”, Cristi Pogăcean.

BIO

Cristi Pogăcean (b.1980) has been defying the academic tradition of the Romanian art school ever since the beginning of his artistic career, founding the groups Pro Test (1997, Târgu Mureș) and Supernova (2002, Cluj-Napoca, with Laszlo Istvan and Ciprian Muresan).
Participating in shows such as Blood and Honey, curated by Harald Szeemann (2003) and Low-Budget Monuments, part of the Vennice Biennale (2007), he assumes a detached position, as an observer of contemporary culture, drawing attention upon universally preconceived notions.
